Healthy Habits: Simple Snacks

By Jessica Maynes, GOTR Spring 2017 Intern on 4/17/2017

Have you ever eaten Ants on a Log?? This yummy, easy snack is both nutritious and fun to make!

You only need 3 ingredients:

Celery (a couple of stalks will do)

1 tablespoon of peanut butter per stalk

A handful of raisins

Rinse the celery and chop the stalks into 3 or 4 shorter pieces. Spread the peanut butter down the center of the celery. Top the peanut butter with a few raisins to resemble ants walking down a log. Enjoy!!

Here are some fun variations of this classic snack.

Ladybugs on a Log:

Celery

1 tablespoon of low-fat cream cheese per stalk

A handful of dried cranberries

Fiesta on a Log:

Celery

1-2 tablespoons of hummus per stalk

1 teaspoon of salsa on top!

Want to take a tasty snack like this on the go?

Grab a sealable container such as a tupperware or mason jar. Put a spreadable ingredient (peanut butter, hummus, etc.) on the bottom of the container. Stick shortened stalks of celery (or carrot sticks too!) upright into the container. Place a fun topping (raisins, pretzels, etc.) on top. Close the container and take with you!
